When you are making your redstone suggestions, please note that Java and Bedrock will not have the exact same the same redstone systems - this would require redoing redstone system completely on one platform or the other. The two systems are functionally different and are going to stay that way. Please be sure to tag your suggestions with (Java) or (Bedrock).

Gears, converter, and pulleys (vertical power)

Remember when gears were a thing long ago? Before redstone was 100% fleshed out as a concept.

 

They should be added back as a way to make redstone connect directly upward.

 

Doing so would need some sort of signal conversion block from gear to redstone and vice versa (it could have an input and output setting that is changed by right clicking. It would probably tell you with small arrows or a color indicator)

 

The direction they are powering would be indicated by the direction that they turn when they are powered.

 

They could also be used for something like a pulley for an elevator (made with a minecart).

 

The gears could give a use for the iron nuggets by being used in the crafting recipe (four iron nuggets and a redstone in the center)

    I literally had the same exact idea until i saw your post. Even though i am disappointed that our ideas are almost exactly the same, I'll still share my thoughts. Instead of a pulley, i was more into the idea of a conveyor belt because it is a bit more expensive and is not like a rope and pulley that would presumably only need iron and string. Also I too had the idea of a gear to redstone and redstone to gear contraption and I already made some concept art for it. Well i hope our idea gets approved!

    I love this idea, but mojang has most likely been getting this one since pefore release and it's still not in yet.

     

    I will never understand why.

    As a way to give copper a purpose, maybe gears could be made of copper.

    There is a problem with the idea, and it is that Minecraft is set in the Middle Ages and Mojan has no thought of adding technological things now. (redstone is radioactive dust, not electricity)

    Mojang would just be copying the Create mod here: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/create If it works with a mod, then why implement it as a feature?

    How about making gears a thing in minecraft where it can be use as another source of power to other machines. Since minecraft act like the middle ages they could be powered by water wheels or by hand to pull things or move

    Pistons can push up to 8 blocks, we need something like a pulley that can pull blocks so we can have things like retractable bridges and portcullis. I had the idea for a clamp block.  You can clamp together up to 6 blocks by placing clamps at each end.  Then the pulley can pull the 8 blocks when it gets a redstone signal. A row of pulleys could then pull a bridge horizontally or a gate vertically.
