I propose a new gamerule for Minecraft that I call attrition. Each time you die in a Hardcore world with /attrition set to true, you would respawn, but with 2 less max health. So after dying once, you would have 9 hearts left, then 8, then 7, and so on until you die for the tenth time, at which point you would have to delete your world, just as in regular Hardcore. This would give you a total of nine lives, so you could think of it as Cat Hardcore mode if you want!
The goal of this idea is to provide a style of play that caters to players like myself who want the constant danger of Hardcore, but in a world they can aspire to keep long-term, as with normal Survival. Right now it is impossible to get the best of both worlds: anyone can die to a glitch or accident in Hardcore and lose everything, while regular Survival hardly punishes you at all for death.
Thank you very much for reading my idea!
