Ela Jain It actually is pronounced "Octopuses" since the word "octopus" comes from Greece. The word "Octopi" is a Latin word which makes its plural term incorrect.

Could they drop octopus meat when killed? I think it would be cool if they could. I really like this idea, and I'm sure my friend would like it too, since octopuses are her favorite animals!

Regarding the camouflage ability, I think it should seek out exposed faces of coral, and take the shape of a coral fan. If none is available, it will become sea grass on the ocean floor. The textures would be a bit off, as they'd more tentacle-looking, so that they can still be distinguished.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this mob would be if it's not a pet.

    Pet octopuses would be amazing.

Octopuses are one of my favourite creatures along with frogs but this is an amazing idea if it was to be added it would make me actually search for coral reefs instead of just stumbling onto them.

Like the idea except that they will act like squids, octopus are shy in real life so they should stay away from the player instead. They also are very good at fitting in small spaces so they should also be able to fit in at least a half slab of space.

Oooh, maybe they could spawn holding something and you could befriend them so they wouldn't run away and you can bucket them. There could also be blue-ringed octopi(?) that would act the same but deal high poison damage. My favorite type of octopus, the mimic octopus would be cool but sadly not too Minecraft-y. If the mimic octopus was added it would be cool to see it appear as squids or fish to avoid players.

Personally I think it will be cool because then we can have a pet octopus like some people do in real life and I think I will add a more diverse ecosystem to Minecraft

Many comments here note that an octopus mob could be too similar to the squid, and that it would be difficult to design a blocky octopus. May I suggest the dumbo octopus as a model to solve these issues? They are very round and have short tentacles. Consider a quarter block mischief maker instead of another long armed one. Also; please DO NOT make them a food source, octopus are incredibly intelligent and protected creatures in science research. They would be more fun as a mob that steals dropped blocks, since real octopus will actually do that.

Ooh ooh. A concept has come up to my mind. It can't swim very good so it just crawls along the bottom of the ocean. But it will swim sometimes. It's much more smaller than the squid but is larger than the nautilus (another mob I voted for)

It’s octopi not octopuses. Not trying to be rude just saying
