Adjustable note block volume

The volume of a note block is affected by distance like everything else, but I would like a new way to change the volume of the note block without changing distance.

 

Some suggestions:

 

-dependant on redstone signal strength,

 

-a unique interface to choose the volume,

 

-similar to how you can change the note/pitch by LTing or right clicking, you could make it possible to alter the volume by sneaking while LTing or right clicking with an empty hand.

  While I agree that adding a way to adjust note block volume would be good, I think this is not the way to do it because redstone signal strength is not easy to control, especially if you are trying to pack a whole tune into a compact space. (Or so I would think, I'm no expert)

  To add to this idea: what if you could place wool blocks/carpet on top of the noteblock to make them quieter, but not mute them (like placing any other block would)?
