While there is certainly a business element to their refusal, we'll just mention what seems to be the most practical way to implement this on both platforms:

OSX: we don't know enough to say for sure, but if IOS uses the same Metal API for graphics as OSX, it should be almost trivial to port over.

GNU/Linux: If the Android version is tweaked to use the common subset of Bionic and glibc, both platforms should work on nearly identical codebases. If Microsoft is truly as supportive of OSS as they claim, they should prove it by implementing the known set of patches used in the community launchers to adapt their Android release into an almost 0 maintenance Android and GNU/Linux port.

It's been 4 years now, kinda ridiculous that you can't play Bedrock on Mac or the Steam Deck / Linux.

This should be possible at least for M1, as it can easily run iOS apps on Macs (but it is turned off for Minecraft... why?). Some have found out methods to sideload the app onto an M1 Mac but then it sacrifices Xbox Live integration and mouse support, although keyboard works fine. Why is it so difficult to have Minecraft Bedrock on Mac, or atleast on M1?

Yes! it makes no sense to have a game on iOS and Windows but not macOS. micro$oft probably won't do this though. THEY SHOULD ALSO KEEP JAVA EDITION

The absence of Minecraft on Mac is really upsetting, because it is not even possible to download the iPad app.

Furthermore the new macs has the same type of processors than on iPad Pros.

Please, we need Linux and OSX support. How does such a giant game still not have Linux and OSX support?

This is a very good idea. They definitely should implement bedrock edition on Mac as education edition is based on bedrock and it's on mac so it shouldn't be that hard even if it means they need to hire a small team of people to make this happen and well worth it.

They should really get on making minecraft bedrock accessible on all platforms like java is.

Because Bedrock edition is supposed to be the cross play edition, why not support Macs? More and more people are buying Macs because Apple Silicon is fast. And it is arm64-based so the potential macOS version would just need a few tweaks or not even to work on Mac. And yet Education Edition is based on bedrock and on Mac. Mojang and Microsoft could be earning more money by doing this and not including it in the Java and Bedrock package. Also now as of Apple WWDC 2023 they have announced tools to make Mac support easier (and possibly more stable than Education Edition).

I would still buy Minecraft bedrock edition on Mac if not included in the Java and Bedrock package.

So... Here we are and it's 2023, and still no Bedrock for Mac or Linux. Is it because Bedrock for Windows is all dressed up in a Microsoft Store appx disguise? It can't be this hard to simply integrate the Bedrock option into the exisiting launcher because it's been done with the Windows launcher. So if it's not a technical issue, it must be a willingness issue. It's not that it can't be done, it's more like they just don't want to.

With the popularity of the Steam deck, I think Mojang should consider porting it (Or at least releasing it outside of UWP) to Linux

Considering apple's announcement of the Game Porting Toolkit last week AND the ability to run iOS games on mac with NO extra code (announced years ago) I see no excuse. I wish for a developer or member of staff to acknowledge this forum and answer our questions.

Yeah this would be pretty nice to have. Especially since one of the selling points of this is cross play. (so what's the point in limiting it to one desktop os ? [ Microsoft could easily handle the costs of ports to other desktop Operating Systems since it's basically got money at it's fingertips !]

This would Also include Native Steam Deck support as it runs Linux. There is no reason there is a Nintendo Switch Edition and Not a Linux (so Steam Deck included) and MacOS Edition !

I don't understand why Microsoft chose to do this its obvious that the software to run on an M-Series Mac is already there and with a little extra coding to make the aspect ratio, keyboard, and mouse it would be perfect, if we can get this thread more noticed they may actually do it.

The bedrock edition can now run on Linux, but it still can't run on macOS.I hope to see it on macOS someday.

I would love to see the Bedrock Edition on Mac and Linux, it would make it even more cross play compatible, because it would have a better OS compatibillity.

It's been 6 years since this request was posted and it has thousands of votes. Bedrock already runs on Apple silicon in every iPhone and iPad, it should be a no-brainer to get it running on every Mac as well. There's no reason not to, it would be good for everyone - good for Mojang, good for Mac users, good for the game, good for the community. Let's get this on the roadmap please!

I play on a bedrock realm along with several friends. Another friend only has access to MacOS and cannot join the realm. Would like to *either* see bedrock available on Mac (it should work because an M-series mac has the same processor family as an M-series iPad) OR the ability to join a bedrock realm from java.

This Is Unfair For Non Windows PC Users That Play Minecraft Because They Do Not Get The Full Game And Are Kind Of Scammed And It's A Bit Weird Because Microsoft Replaced MInecraft Legacy Console, Pocket, Windows 10 And Fire TV Editions But Not Java Instead They Renamed It But They Got Education On Mac So They Can Do It (or at least on mac) And Reason Is Maybe To Switch To Windows Or What And Why Bedrock Has Marketplace But Not Java They Also Do Not Allow You To Use The Ipad Version From App Store And Minecraft Was Ported To Chromebooks So Maybe They Can Port It On Mac The Same Way On Linux Tho I Do Not Know If It Has A Store Because I Do Not Have A Linux And It May Be Different From Distro To Distro But Microsoft Still Try Porting It To Linux Or Certain Distros And Also Port It To Mac And I Know You Can Port It To Mac So Do It But On Mac You May Need To Sell Bedrock Separately But Still Port It.

6 years later, and we all still want this... the Apple App Store could run the iPad version on MacOS today if allowed. This would be transformative for so many families!
