(Bedrock Edition) Prior to the most recent updates, Beacon beams were not rendered if the player position was too high above; this has since been changed so that beacon beams can be seen regardless of the player height and where the beacons themselves are placed. In many cases, it's arguable this is the best approach - now beacons that are built on the bottom of the world will still render their beams to build height, allowing them to be seen. If one was trying to hide those beams intentionally by building them deep underground, however, there are now (arguably) ugly beams of light poking up where they were not previously.
I'm of the mind that having the beams visible is the right call; however it would be nice to have the ability to hide them with overhead blocks, etc. so we can still get the effects, but the beams themselves are not visible.
This really only came about for me because I have a pond I was using to hide the glass above my bedrock-level beacons, which now has six beams of light shooting up through, even though it wasn't visible at all previously :p
