Areas such as un-lit caves, the Nether, under trees or dark forests at night, or other dark areas are completely or almost completely dark. It is hard to navigate at night unless there is some form of light source, such as the moon or torches, and it makes exploration difficult. In un-lit caves, it is impossible to see how deep a cave may go, even if it's small, identify ores and other blocks around you, and see what mobs may be in the cave. The issue is worse when you are near a cave opening and there is bright sunlight shining in; blocks being hit by the sunlight appear to be washed out, while blocks in the dark are almost completely black. I understand the effect that was trying to be achieved, but the contrast between light and dark is a little too much.
