Giving pets the ability to wander around our bases would add life and personality to our worlds. With mobs like the Ghastling, Happy Ghast, and various dog breeds, it's a great chance to make our worlds feel more alive—especially in single-player or when seeing other players' pets in multiplayer.
Pets could have ambient behaviors like cats sleeping in corners, dogs digging harmless holes (particle effect only), or parrots flying and perching on towers. A new settin, similar to simulation distance could define how far pets can roam from a set “anchor” block. If they reach the edge, they could teleport inside sim distance without jarring teleportation directly to the anchor.
A recall feature would also help. This could add uses to the horn, crafted similarly to the recovery compass. which could summon pets back in a more immersive way—teleporting them out of view and having them walk/fly to the player through their normal pathfinding. Horns could be assigned to individual pets or mobs types, one way could be to name the recovery horn and the pet the same so the horn recalls a specific pet.
This system could scale easily—from new players with one dog to advanced players using it for creative automation. It’s all about making pets feel more alive, useful, and present in our worlds, currently pet mobs teleport right in front of us all the time and they can feel slightly detached, this way every time they reappear they're pathfinding to us like a pet should.
