The Crawler was a cancelled prototype for the lava Strider. It resembled a giant tardigrade/millipede. I recommend bringing it (or a variant of it) back as a mob that players can use when traveling thru the Nether.
Uses: Takes the role of Donkeys (or even Llamas) in the Nether.
- Tameable/breedable via Nether-native foods.
- Rideable with saddle. (Speed would be faster than walking but slower than sprinting. Auto-climbs 1-high slopes, increasing movement efficiency.)
- Can equip chests. (Very useful when exploring solo &/or when transporting many items at once.) -Riding while using a Lead on another can double the extra capacity. (Optional: Crawlers form caravans when using a Lead. May need to be limited to 2-3 per caravan for balancing & to reduce pathfinding issues in crowded terrain.)
Behavior: Passive. Similar to Armadillos.
- Slow but durable (high health).
- Fireproof & lavaproof, prevents item loss even in hazardous situations.
- Rolls into a ball to further reduce damage (eg from hoglins, piglin arrows, Ghast fireballs). Chests are inaccessible when rolled up. Naturally hides when near hostile hoglins/piglins/ghasts (unless ridden or attached to a Lead), but quickly uncurls (faster than Armadillo's 3 sec, to reduce player frustration).
- Maybe: Wild groups form small caravans when traveling.
Drops?: Maybe Scutes &/or "Nether Leather", used to make "Nether Leather Armor" (in-built Fire Protection, low AP). (Usable for Piglins?)
Spawns: High value mob, so higher rarity. (Specific biomes??)
