Using bone meal on tall bushes (roses etc.) in Java Edition or short flowers (pink petals and wildflowers) in either Java or Bedrock drops duplicate items. But in real life, fertilizing plants causes them to grow larger or encourages them to spread horizontally outward, not drop on the ground.
So rather than dropping items, I think all bonemealed flowers should spread to adjacent blocks like some do in Bedrock. This mechanic would allow for more realistic gardening and encourage farms that feel less like duplication and more like proper harvesting. These farms would still be very simple (like using a piston or water stream to break the new flowers).
Implementing this suggestion would align Java flowers with Bedrock, and pink petals and wildflowers with the rest of the flowers, creating parity and internal consistency.
