This ambience update is the perfect time to add the shelf fungi from the original birch forest concept art.

This suggestion is more specific than a similar suggestion from 2023 in several ways. First, shelf fungi would occur in the forests and dark forests that generate leaf litter, due to the abundance of decaying matter and higher humidity. Second, to avoid creating a new set of items, these could be the same items as existing brown and red mushrooms. Similarly to torches, they could just assume a different model when placed on vertical surfaces like tree trunks, which has not been previously suggested.

This mechanic could potentially be expanded to nether fungi on crimson and warped trees - although since those trees are themselves fungi, it might not make sense for them to sprout from them selves.
