I don't know whose idea this was but this is a terrible change. Making movement slower is something I thought I'd never see from Mojang. Truly disappointing and makes me worry for the future of the game. Just when I was getting excited for all the new features in the recent snapshots too.

If you are still not convinced by all six hundreds comments, just consider looking at TrackMania, a well known game, that was especially known for its physics "bugs", these features, these unintended bugs, over the time, became intended physics behaviour.

Honestly, I will never download any newer version if this is not reverted.

it is nonsense that sneaking diagonally is faster than sneaking straight but the best solution for everyone's fun is to speed up straight sneaking rather than nerfing diagonal

I don't play these sorts of challenges, but I voted anyway because I've seen Minecraft developers pull sneaky stuff like this too much now...

I don't normally give microsoft/mojang feedback, I mostly play solo survival (both vanilla and modded). I can somewhat speedbridge but not really, I'm definitely not a competitive pvper. I also vehemently disagree with the movement change in the new snapshot, to the point where if it's implemented, I'll stop playing new vanilla minecraft versions, or won't play them without a mod to correct movement.

Bug or not, movement is just one of those fundamental things that has been part of the game for a very long time. Similar to "bugs" like sitting in a minecart doesn't lock your viewpoint, or say gaining massive speeds with iceboating. This movement "correction" changes the feel of the game entirely, it's just not minecraft anymore. Please Microsoft/Mojang, let bedrock be bedrock and let java be java!

I hope Mojang realizes that the reason for this being "parity with bedrock edition" just makes Java players hate Bedrock Edition more, if you want parity, buff movement in Bedrock edition don't nerf Javas. The implication of this bug being patched after 15 years of it existing within the game just ruins player experiences.

Fun movement is literally the only reason I have stuck with this game for it's 15 year lifespan, I can not imagine what it would do for multiplayer pvp became holding W at your opponent and hoping your opponent misses, what it would do to parkour players if one of the hardest jumps you can do is a cross neo, and what it would do for survival players if getting from point A to point B is that much slower.

Mojang casually "fixing" movement that is older than the employees that "fixed" it have been there without asking the community is a clear sign of the downfall we are walking into. I'm not leaving 1.20.1 ever.

PVP -> takes skill and requires strafing. -> Walk in a line and hope to get the first hit our hit select.

Bridging -> simple and easy bridging techniques that are easy to pick up for survival players and noobs -> Now if you want to go at a reasonable speed you need to Godbridge.

Parkour -> the hardest jump you can do is now a four-block.

honestly there was no need to fix something that doesn't need a fix in the first place.....
that is like the whole discussion about tnt dupers again where someone reported it as a bug....
or the special Redstone mechanic named bud switch (block update detector) that also got so many times called a bug that should be fixed..... not to mention the copper bulb and crafters speed nerfs bcz of a bug report that thought they are to fast needs to be slower... a change no one asked for....
there are so many more things and in the end no one of those should be fixed as they are features that makes the game better...

I literally thought moving faster like that was part of the game didnt know it was treated as a bug i used to speed bridge like straight backwards holding only S and one day my friend told me about pressing A or D with S and told me it was part of the game

Head above the parapet, I support the bug fix and am not voting this. It's not a nerf and it's not nefarious Mojang/Microsoft going out of their way to annoy players, no matter how loudly people shout to the contrary.

Old maps will still work with the old bugs they were designed around. New maps will be made and tuned to the new (or in this instance, fixed) mechanics, and this time around all players will be able to use them, instead of only the "skilled" players using the "advanced tech" of exploiting bugs.

At best maybe this is an opportunity to implement a new and intended speed adjustment ability in the game that all players can use.

It's also pretty concerning to see thousands of users whipped up into this frenzy by an exaggerated YouTube video weaponising people for a linked petition. "Player speed nerfed by 41%!" No it wasn't. Player speed is unchanged. Even this bug fix only reduced situational speed by 29%.

    "Fix"...

The "bug" was there since ever, so is part of the game, DO NOT IMPLEMENT IT!!!

In my opinion, if some bugs are not breaking the game, and even help the players in a good way, those shouldn't be removed. Especially if it's 10 years old. I hope this will change the next update.
