Toggle Rail with Remote switcher (Bedrock)

Suggestion: Remote Switcher

Summary: An AEO tool which, when charged, sends a signal to toggle nearby rails. An 8-16 block range may, I imagine, be sufficient.

Need: I have an extensive long-range track network. As much as I love complex redstone systems - and I do - switching directions mid-ride is extremely difficult to do gracefully, and will be even more difficult if our beloved minecarts get a speed boost someday.  

Experience: Functionally, this would be the same as switching a rail using a redstone component like a pressure plate or detector rail, but could be activated by a player in a moving minecart.

Additional Suggestions:

1) this only switches rails that are connected in sequence to the rail the minecart is currently on.

2) the switch occurs for as long as the player charges the tool (bow meets detector rail)
