Intrinsic value means someone finds value in the process of an activity. They care about the little things, and the process is the reward. Extrinsic is different for extrinsic value, you mostly have fun, but only if you gain material value along the way. Your fun is dependent entirely on the usefulness of value of and item. The reward is the reward.
With this in mind, if we take a look at minecrafts approach at updates, they recently have really pushed intrinsic value hard in the features they add, and only add like 1 or 2 valuable, genuinely useful things if any.
To fix this, I propose we add the birch polypore. This shelf shroom is native to Sweden, and is highly useful for medicin. Here are some useful features of this fungus that we can add:
Medicinal properties: We could make them heal hearts instead of saturate hunger when eaten while also removing bad effects.
Edible: We could use it as a soup Ingredient, or a straight out food source.
Smithing: maybe it can be used in grindstones to repair swords or even increase their stats without enchantments.
Blotting ink: maybe it could be turned into fabric to blot out writing on books and all other editable items to make them reusable.
Fire starting: maybe the birch polypore can be crafted into polypore tinder, which can be used as a fuel for furnaces and campfires.
This simple shelf fungus can help spruce up the birch forest in nature while also acting as an extrinsic balancer to all the intrinsic features in the biome.
