given how much visual customization is coming in just the next update alone, i think something that would make creating custom items even easier is an "attack_type" item component.
this would have a few parameters, but the most important would be the "type", a string which (for now) could be either "sword" (for the sweep attack), "axe" (for the ability to break shields), "mace" (for the smash attack), or "none" (as there are no other unique attacking items at the moment), in the future it might be nice to add data driven attack types, but that's not what i'm asking for now. enchantments being able to change this field would also be Incredibly useful, but once again that's not necessary to get started.
another important parameter would be "sound" which would have two fields, "base" which would be the normal non-critical attack sound, and "critical" which should be self explanatory. splitting these fields could allow for such amazing customization options, letting crits feel much more impactful or special to hit (especially combined with custom enchantments to make critical hits do unique things), and all this would allow custom weapons to not only Look unique but also Sound unique, and if this could be modified by enchantments, such as fire aspect adding a fiery crackle, or wind burst changing the mace's impact noise to a Whoosh on top of the wind explosion sound... Revolutionary.
there's probably more potential that i'm missing here, but i sincerely hope this gets considered.
