Horses can be ridden to gallop across the land, and boats can be paddled to sail the seas, but what is there for the sky? I know the elytra is a reward for beating The End, but what if there was still a way to fly earlier in the game, just not convenient to use or get, so the elytra is still a reward? Meet the Gryphon! The Gryphon is a deep red, lion-headed creature with an eagle’s wings. Gryphons can be found in the Nether, patrolling the Nether fortresses, making sure no piglins enter. They eat the nether wart and sip on the lava, so they have a deep red pelt, resist fire damage and inflict fire damage. They are wildly defensive of the fortress and will attack you if you break it in any way, place blocks on it, take from chests, and especially if you hit it. Although, they don't seem to mind if you break the spawners, hit a wither skeleton, or hit blaze, so go ahead. If you wish to tame one, you must earn its trust by accepting its quest to defeat a piglin invasion, similar to an illager raid. Once you have earned its trust, it will follow you wherever you go and function like a wolf, only it can fly, carry mobs and items, and be ridden with a saddle. If you decide to battle one, you will be very disappointed to find that they have the health of an iron golem and deal the same damage as an iron sword with fire aspect. All of this sounds great, but keeping him around will cost you a daily netherite bar, or he will simply return to the nether fortress and can't be tamed.
