What if, for an idea for a new hostile arthropod, we had one based on mosquitos. Or ticks. Or whatever else.
They'd be made giant and with a modified fantasy appearance to make them distinct enough from the real thing and not count as a "real life creature," of course. (Some fantasy mosquitos I've seen have been creepy.)
The kicker would be, instead of going after blood, they'd be coming after your experience points. Normally, they would just do an average attack involving stabbing, but occasionally they could latch onto you like an arrow and drain your XP, visibly filling up with glowing material in their body. Then once full they could either fly away from you, making you track it down, or it could do something else with its gathered XP.
They could also possibly target other mobs and drain XP from them, making them a mobile XP collector that doesn't require killing mobs (though you will have to hunt down the bug to collect it.)
If you kill it, you get all your XP back and some extra as a bonus.
It could be a way to "give" your XP to another player if you manage to get one in a closed environment, among other things.
Mojang may not want irl animals to be purely hostile mobs... but honestly I think parasites that bring so much disease could be an exception.
