It's a known fact that plants get affected by the moon cycle: As it wanes and grows back all manner of plants will change the flow of the sap inside them too, given the Creaking appeareance and thematic, it would be spooky if the moon phases affected it too: If the moon is dark on the sky, a new creaking heart (and creaking) can spawn with a new pale oak (much like a beehive can spawn along a oak or birch if it's close to flowers)
The ones that are already alive get a boost: A creaking can move freely (alneit perhaps more slowly) as long as the new moon stays in the sky, forcing the players to tread carefully through the pale garden on those days, and to keep an eye on the sky, adding to the atmosphere of mystery and fear....
I would leave up to discussion if the saplings would be able to do this outside its current biome or not
