Songbirds.
One thing I would love is for Minecraft to lean into its inherent nostalgia. One major way we could do this is through sounds many of us have heard in our childhoods, specifically bird songs.
Songbirds would come in multiple variants, much like Tropical Fish! Each variant would have its own unique sound, here's a list of the birds I feel would be a great fit: (Look up these birds on Youtube to hear their calls to get an idea of what they would sound like)
- Mourning Dove - This bird song is iconic!
- Cardinal
- Red Winged Blackbird
- Tufted Titmouse
- Red Bellied Woodpecker
- Carolina Wren
- European Starling
- Blue Jay
- Song Sparrow
- American Robin
- Eastern Meadowlark
- Belted Kingfisher
- Ruby Crowned Kinglet
- Chipping Sparrow
Bird Nests:
These would generate on treetops on world generation and tree growth. They could either serve as a spawn point (a spawner) for ANY Songbird variant, or they could always spawn one specific bird type.
I think that they would naturally spawn any variant, but you could use specific items on these nests to make them spawn a specific Songbird variant, Ex. a stick for a Mourning Dove, or a gold nugget for a Blue Jay.
