Crinkling flowers would be small single block patches of white flowers found in pale gardens, when stepped on they make a relatively loud crunching noise and change to a more dishelved and dying look for the next minute or so. This would aggrivate creakings possibly increasing their speed, this would give the player a really good reason to avert their gaze from creakings when backing up as well as add extra challenge for those who would dare harvest them at night.
Better than this is when a mob walks through this flower patch, a creaking will target them instead, this gives them a decent survival purpose as sentinels without making them automatically kill hostile mobs that enter the forest, ruining the mobs great strength as a support mob (as in supporting the player dying). Obviously to avoid issues creepers, pets, maybe even more passive mobs can be wise to or completely avoid crumpling the flowers.
