The Creaking should have the ability to root players from a distance. When rooted, players will be completely immobilized. To free themselves, they must break the roots beneath them, forcing them to turn away from The Creaking, allowing it to get closer, making the encounter even more frightening and challenging.
Further thoughts:
Roots will emerge from beneath The Creaking, crawling across the ground (the animation can be similar to the sculk sensor wave but much slower, sliding along the surface of blocks) as they move toward the player. Once the roots reach the player, they will be significantly slowed for a second, unable to jump. Then, roots will rise from the ground and fully trap the player. To escape, the player must break the roots using a sword or axe. Breaking process should take about 1 to 1.5 seconds, giving The Creaking enough time to get closer.
These roots could potentially drop an item, such as the roots themselves, which could later be used in potion-making or maybe even using it as a sapling to grow a friendly creaking. This would encourage players to go into the forest and risk getting trapped for the loot.
