Mojang knows everyone wants more new content more often, and so Mojang started doing a number of free game drops throughout the year instead of one free major update a year. But as well as the occurrence of multiple game update drops:
- Mojang should also do 2 major updates a year: One in the winter, and one at the beginning of summer time. These major updates are very big updates that are always at least 6-12 times the size of average-sized game update drops.
- The Seecret Updates from 2010 can also occur at any point thought the year alongside the game drops without a changelog, as well as having no development versions. These updates are about 0.25-2 times the size of average game update drops. These are rare updates that can usually only release on a few Fridays throughout the year.
- If possible, there can also be more development versions, as seen in this post: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/25793145776781-Development-versions-need-to-be-released-more-often-and-with-more-content
