The classical zombie texture is as iconic as any long-standing feature of the game, and it is very nice that it parallels the designs of the Steve skin, but with the introduction of other default skins - Alex, and later Ari, Kai, Noor, Sunny, Zuri, Efe and Makena - it may make sense to create variations of the zombie (and by extension any other mob stemming from the zombie) to include these new skins, all spawned with equal likelyhood.
I am not advocating for the original skin to be removed, I am just thinking about parity between the base game and the skins offered by default. This would make the fight against monsters more visually interesting as the horde would not be so homogeneous and would also give representation to the new skin variants.
Additionally, a new feature could be added, that if the player is killed (possibly exclusively without the involvement of other mob types) by a zombie, a husk or a drowned, a new zombie/husk/drowned spawns with their items and they have to kill him to retrieve them. This system would parallel how villagers are converted, and would also add an interesting new game mechanic, where the player could upload variants of their own texture (zombie variant, drowned variant and husk variant) that they may discover in the wild if they ever die to one of those mobs and seek to recover the things they had on them at the time of death.
