The Vicuña in real life is an endangered relative of the Llama and native to the Andes mountains. In Minecraft, these cozy creatures help to set the scene in the mountains, too. These high-altitude animals produce a super-valuable fiber when shorn. Let’s call it “heavy wool,” which is sure to come in handy for explorers both above and below ground. With this extra fluffy block in hand, falls can be cushioned and jumps can be silenced. And don’t worry, your in-game cat friends will love them, too. Just like wolves now have armadillo armor, heavy wool will allow players to craft protective gear for their cats. These animals are notoriously hard to farm. The ancient builders lived side by side with untamed Vicuña, shearing them in wild. The wandering traders of long ago were the first and only people to manage to domesticate the Vicuña, giving rise to the species of llama they care for today. This is why we think the Vicuña is the perfect way to tie together all the new features of the Deep Dark and the best-loved lore that makes the overworld endlessly fun.
