Tinted Amethyst Torch and Amethyst Jack o Lantern (Glare Substitute)

The Tinted Amethyst Torch is crafted from an Amethyst Shard and a Redstone Torch.

When active, it powers the same nearby blocks which an active Redstone Torch powers.

Unlike a redstone torch, whether or not it is active depends on the block light level of the block it is attached to -- if that block is has a block light level of zero, the torch is active and produces power.

The Tinted Amethyst Torch has something in common with Tinted Glass -- it is rendered as a transparent block, but the light engine would treat it as opaque.

The Amethyst Jack o Lantern is crafted from a Carved Pumpkin and a Tinted Amethyst Torch.

Its mouth and eyes are magenta/purple, and, when there is no block light at it's location, it appears to glow, similar to glow-inked signs and glow item frames.

A Redstone Comparator can "read" the Amethyst Jack o Lantern, measuring it's block light level.

The Amethyst Jack o Lantern can be worn as a helmet, which lets the player see which blocks are dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn.
