Woodland Mansions are useless. They should be a worthwhile quest. They look great, and they're fun to raid. Sadly, there's not other reason to visit them now, which is a shame.
In most worlds, only 1 or 2 mansions are located within a reasonable distance from spawn. The only other structure that rare is the stronghold, but with the stronghold, there's at least a good reason to make the trip. End portals can only be found in strongholds, so you MUST go there are some point if you want to "finish" the game.
Mansions aren't that special. They do have some nice loot (like books and totems), but those items can now be found elsewhere with less effort. Instead of being as rare as strongholds, therefore, they should be as common as ocean monuments. Monuments give better common loot (like blocks of gold) and they contain unique items (like sea lanterns and sponges). In fact, based on the rarity of the loot they hold, maybe mansions should be more common than monuments.
With the recent release of the Tricky Trials update, this mansion problem is even more obvious. Trial chambers feel similar to mansions. They're a fun place to raid with unique enemies. Mansions should be just as common, especially since they have no unique loot.
Finally, most of the enemies inside mansions should respawn. It makes sense that evokers do not respawn after being defeated since they are a boss enemy like elder guardians. But pillagers and vindicators should respawn like they do at outposts.
