As described in the title, a variant of the trail dungeon; but, in the sky!
Of note, certain blocks like glass and copper grate allow sky light thru. As such, it would be possible to build a floating islands structure/dungeon that still allowed enough sky light to seep thru it and illuminate the world below. With the problem of the area below becoming a mob spawning hazard removed, having a sky variant of a trail dungeon becomes more feasible. Especially, since, elytras can make reaching them easier as well.
Thematically, Breezes already fit in with a sky style dungeon. Additionally, other thematic elements, like pitfall traps, would add to the sense of danger, if you didn't bring an elytra. If lightning rods are placed or generated in a sky dungeon, lightning can strike them even when the weather is sunny (though not as frequently as a normal thunder storm.) A cloud block could also be introduced as well, behaving in a similar way to a powdered snow block, but mostly translucent, and not blocking sky light. With there being an enchantment for boots that can be used to walk across them. On the technical side, undead mobs can still be used as long as a room only has a few skylights.
