Before purchasing Minecraft, I used unofficial launchers which, in my opinion, are much better than the official launcher. With the unofficial launchers, you could see a list of various versions, including those with Forge or Optifine, and select the version you wanted to play. I could easily switch between versions and manage my mods without problems.
On the other hand, the official Minecraft launcher has been disappointing to me. Although it allows you to install vanilla versions without problems, when trying to install Forge, although it appears in the list, it fails in most cases. Also, installing a new version of Forge replaces the old one, which is frustrating. I can configure a version of Forge on installations, but it usually gives an error when entering.
Another annoyance is that the official launcher logs me out of Microsoft for no apparent reason, forcing me to log out and log in repeatedly until I finally log in. This is extremely frustrating and makes me think the official launcher is the worst.
For now, I'll settle for the Minecraft Bedrock shortcut, which doesn't have these issues. I really wish they would improve the official launcher and do extensive testing, as purchasing Minecraft and facing these issues has been a huge disappointment.
