In the snapshot the new pistons are quiet by default, however some of use prefer the old sounds. So why not wax the pistons much like we do copper blocks to make them quieter? This would also give honeycomb another use other than copper blocks by pleasing both crowds of people who either like or dislike the newer sounds.
I also recently discovered that we do wax wooden gears in real life too to help lubricate and protect them.
