The heavy core should have gravity and deal damage to players like the anvil. Similar to the mace, it will deal more damage the longer it falls. Basically just a block version of the mace. Could be good for traps, and other stuff.
EDIT: Something I forgot to mention was balancing, due to the fact this removes the entire risk factor of the mace, I have come up with a proposed solution:
Every time the mace falls, it has a chance of breaking and being completely destroyed. The farther down it falls, the higher the chance. That way there is still a risk factor when using it.
If you want to guarantee land a hit on something, use the core block itself. Risk of not being able to use it again
Want to guarantee keeping your mace, use the weapon itself. Risk of dying
