Moveable Container Blocks/Block Entities (Java)

I am still blown away by the fact this is not a thing. Being able to move chest and other block entities with pistons would change storage systems and allow us to make amazing things. There are already extremely light mods that do this with no effort, so I do not understand why Mojang won't just do it. Please this is something I hear talked about so often and would add so much fun and opportunity for creativity in the game.
