By the way, this is a good idea!

How has this idea not gained more traction? I feel like the jungle is a very lacking biome, for being one of the most biodiverse environments in the world. The Sparse Jungle idea is cool, I'd be fine if they just spawned in the regular jungle (or even a forest biome) though. These ones would probably be more like tree porcupines, like the ones that live in North America and South America, as opposed to the Old World porcupines. I feel like that could present some problems with how they work, given that most trees in Minecraft aren't too complex (just a trunk and some leaves). Maybe if they ever update trees and give them a few more branches though, this could be a great idea. I do believe that tree porcupines do go to the ground too however, so maybe they could just go with that, and the porcupines could just climb trees like however they would have done the crab, especially with the tall jungle trees.

I like the idea of brushing it too, the brush needs more uses. I do feel like a brush would break when brushing a porcupine though, but I feel the same for an armadillo so I don't know. If I remember correctly, porcupines shed their quills too, just like hair, so maybe you could get them like that. Maybe they'd be damaged and you'd have to combine multiple quills to make on that is fit for an arrow.

About the arrows, I think you should use the quills to craft a more dangerous arrow, not OP, but a bit better. Just put the quill in the place of the stick.

    Part 2 below (I think).

Maybe you can find porcupines by locating stripped wood, since they eat bark. They could also eat leaves, and you could breed and tempt them with saplings. I don't think you should be able to tame them, but if you you lead them to say, your tree farm, you could use them to auto-strip wood for you. They could also have an animation where their quills lift up when they feel in danger, since in reality porcupines keep their quills low unless threatened. I wouldn't suggest that they should be hostile, but perhaps they can be neutral, and like the armadillo, they can lift up their quills when you get near them. Maybe they could retreat to a nearby tree if they feel threatened, or they could attack once and then retreat. I also feel it would be a nice addition if when you hit them with your hand, you took damage, from the quills, maybe only when they're in their raised state, to make that an effective defense for the porcupine. Maybe ocelots could try to attack once, but then quickly leave once they realize what the porcupine is capable of (or wolves, like the Rusty Wolf variant of the Sparse Jungle).
