The recent addition of the Armadillo to the snapshots has left a bit to be desired, but one big thing for me is consistency.
The way that you obtain the scute from the Armadillo is by brushing it. This feels like a good idea to add a new use to the brush, however thought processes would actually lead an average player going through 3 concepts first.
1.) I've shorn sheep, maybe sheers will work!
2.) Maybe it's like Sea Turtles, I'll grow one to see if I get a scute!
3.) Most mobs drop their drop after death, let's test that!
All of these thought processes go through other systems, and 99% of the time, a player not keeping up with the development cycle won't think about using a brush to get the scute.
It may be time to either add Tooltips about what tools can do what, ala Terraria with its picks and hammers telling you what they can mine/break, or making these things more consistent between each other, by either using shears, or tying the scute drops to the growth of the Armadillo like the sea turtles.
