While certain mods have added chest tiers that improve upon inventory space, my idea here is to add more unique chests of the Trapped Chest variety.
Iron Chest:
Iron Doors and Iron Trapdoors require redstone to open--why not do the same for Iron Chests. By itself, the Iron Chest wouldn't allow players to access its contents. When powered with redstone, only then would it become interactable. This could in turn be added in combination with a new key item that can open it, but perhaps even simply holding a Redstone Torch would work as well.
Copper Chest:
And for Copper Chests, they could oxidize just like Copper Blocks. However, as they progress through the different oxidation states, more and more inventory slots around the edges of the UI become "locked", disabling the collection of items within them until the player uses an Axe to revert the oxidation. To add to this, perhaps when it's fully oxidized, the chest is completely rusted shut and can't be opened until scraped with an Axe.
I feel these concepts would fit perfectly with the recently revealed 1.21 update. The Trial Chambers have already been shown featuring new Copper Bulbs, Grates, and more. And generally, these two chest variants would add a lot to players' survival worlds, adventures maps, mini games, etc.
