Minecraft needs a soldier villager.
A villager that generates in a plains wooden (or stone or something, depending on the biome) fort as a structure, defends it against mobs during the night and sleeps during the day.
You give him a bed, and he assigns himself to an empty armor stand as his job block, and before he sleeps every morning, he takes off his equipment and puts it onto the armor stand (if he has any).
While he's sleeping, you have the ability to swap out what he uses, so he can equip whatever a player can equip, including a shield, and if you give him a bow, he generates his own arrows, like skeletons do. He can collect experience within his reach and use it to repair equipment via mending, (or splashing with an xp bottle).
I think this would be a good addition for players who aren't able to participate in the multiplayer function of the game, for whatever reasons. It would also allow for more player interaction with the environment.
It would give players more reason to interact with local villages and villagers in general, because you would want to move the soldier villagers to local villages to protect them from zombies, skeletons, and more during the nights when you aren't able to get to your own bed.
His design could have a little medal-rack on his armor's chest area with between one and three (or more) bars/medals, and depending on the amount of experience he's gathered he could do more damage, using a basic leveling system.
