Not sure if this is the right category, hopefully it is.
This year's mob vote has a chance at bringing in the armadillo shell as an armor part for tame wolves, but I'm not sure this is the best implementation.
What I am suggesting is that the armadillo armor should also follow the same tiers as the player and horse armor. Perhaps the armadillo shell is the main ingredient, but iron or diamonds can be used to make different tiers of the armor still (maybe this difference would be visible on the legs of the wolf, model wise). The reason I feel this is important is that being able to upgrade your companion's armor as you progress would make the tame wolves feel more like a true companion, since they are progressing with you. Maybe enchantments are worth considering as well, but I understand that might be a tad bit difficult to throw in the same update.
If you do like this idea, even slightly, I would highly recommend making the crafting recipe/design involve iron in some way, so if its decided you want to go back to this system, all existing dog armor would only have to go through a name change, rather than a recipe, texture, name, and defense value(?) change.
I'd like to end this by saying, again, if you don't want this system, at least make the shell have the defense of what Iron dog armor would have. In the real world, an armadillo shell is extremely tough, and it wouldn't make sense to be like leather. Additionally, the community would be... upset to say the least.
Good luck!
