This villager type can only be produced from nitwits and their skill set or fighting style is based solely on the weapon they carry. Armor is completely separate but can be added as any material type, enchanted or not. Shields in this case should also be considered a weapon type but would make the villager a standing guard type that would act much the same as tamed wolves or dogs do. The shield could also be considered a secondary weapon type, given to the villager only after his/her primary weapon type is chosen, making them a guard type.
There would be 2 types, active and guard. The active would act similarly to the iron golem, actively patrolling the area near villages. The guard type would either follow the player or stay in one spot much like a tamed mob. No limit to their number, over all health is based on armor worn. Combat effectiveness is random, similar to the stats of horses, but can increased through training or breeding. Other stats would include things like health, speed, jump height and hit force/damage (if melee weapons are used).
Player training is simple: all training is done with either wooden variants of any given melee weapon only. Target blocks, arrows, bows/crossbows and hostile mobs would all be considered training for the villager defender when it comes to ranged weapons. And all training regardless of melee or range, the villager has to survive so many attacks or encounters in order to be considered "trained" and therefore a defender.
