Options when updating worlds to new versions

It would be great if when updating my survival world to a new version of minecraft it would give me the option to keep the whole world or just keep the chunks around me where my house is.That way you wouldn't have to walk thousands of kilometers to see what's new and it would encourage you to explore without worrying about not going too far so as not to ruin biomes from the next update.
