My solution to the "villager nerf" update is that they should patch the stackable discount bug, but make it so that villagers in the villages they spawn in have way cheaper trades than they do currently, and will get a "homesick" status if they're taken too far away from the village. This effect could make trades replenish slower or make them more expensive, or eventually prevent them from trading all together, maybe a combination of those. This encourages actually helping villagers by making their village safer and protecting them from mobs, and encourages players to travel and search around for a village, finding other stuff in the process and actually exploring the game.
The ONE exception could be, keep the stackable "bug" with villagers that SPAWN as zombie villagers. This makes it easy to repopulate trading halls if players really don't wanna be forced to remake them, it also makes sense in-universe, as obviously if you cured a villager they would be more thankful than if they watched you kidnap them, infect them, then "cure" them just to get better deals. It always felt off that the closest things to humans ingame were best utilized by breeding them and putting them in a 1x2 box. I also think cured zombie villagers shouldn't reproduce, so if you want the more "cruel" version of a trading hall you have to go and cure a zombie villager for each enchantment you want. At some point, it will be easier for the player to just mob-proof a naturally generated village.
