In the new snapshot, there was a change that made book trades hard to get. I think it was the right thing to do, since villagers were so OP. But I think getting a good trade was made way too hard. If I wanna get some mending, I have to bring a villager from maybe even 2k blocks to my base, which would be annoying. I think it would be better for the player to give the villager some mending books, for example. Villager examines it, and learns how to do it. And it would make sense. How does the villager know how to make mending books? It would add some value to structures too. You have to find a mending book which only can be found in structures and by fishing. It should need more samples if it is useful. As example, for a villager to give the player an efficiency V trade, it should need 3. and if it is an literally useless enchantment, like aqua affinity, it should need one. This could be changed for treasure enchantments, though. They are hard to find, so it would be rather annoying to find 5 mending books.
