The change made to villager's feels like a massive nerf to a casual player such as myself. Never able to get max level enchantments via villagers directly, and needing to travel 1,000 plus blocks to get needed specific enchantments is a grind I won't ever be able to put in. I actually like the concept, but feel that they should either have enchantments at max level for the final trade, or be able to get all enchantments in every biome. Alternatively, boost the enchantment/enchanting table to better give players the enchantments that are needed. I can go through 2 plus stacks of lapis and 40 plus levels before I get a protection 3 on a diamond chest plate, but in that time I am likely to see protection 1 (of any form) numerous times. Villager trading halls will be nearly impossible now for a casual player, essentially making is so most players don't bother enchanting items. I do enjoy the nerf to curing zombie villager's, though I never abused that mechanic. All in all, this update has too large a nerf to villager's while not improving something like the enchantment/enchanting table. Also, not related to villager's, can the performance be improved at all on Java? My old laptop can do up to 1.17, and even amplified terrain, but with the new world heights of 1.18 the laptop can't even do a 2 chunk render distance. I do understand there are limitations, but I was able to use Fabric with sodium and it's add on's to get to 8 chunks render distance, so it is possible to optimize.
