In the experimentation for 1.20.2, diamond ore was increased as a whole. Although increasing the amount of diamonds is a good change, just changing some numbers is not the right way to go here. Instead, there's an issue with a bit of counter-intuitive design. Deepslate is tough. It takes long to mine. This discourages strip and branch mining for resources and encourages caving. Diamond ore, however, discourages caving due to its reduced air exposure. Instead of increasing the total diamond ore with reduced air exposure, there should be a separate string to have diamonds with normal air exposure but s smaller overall amount compared to the reduced exposure. This gives players more incentive to explore caves which was the purpose of 1.17 and 1.18 instead of forcing players to strip mine if they want any legitimate returns on their efforts.
