It has previously been possible to continually infect and cure a villager in order to get an infinitely large discount, up to 1 emerald per any item. However this is now planned to be fixed in an upcoming update.
This would be a massive mistake. The ability to get large villager discounts has been in the game for far too long to take it away from players. Players have invested time and effort in creating trading halls and setups based solely off these discounts, and have taken for granted their ability to have a large supply of any item sold by villagers.
Personally, I play on a server with an economy largely consisting of villager goods, and removing these discounts would absolutely decimate it. It would heavily restrict what resources are available to players, thus restricting the capabilities of players, and forcing them to do much more grinding.
If Mojang thinks that's how the game should be and that all items should be gained slowly and "fairly", then it would only make sense to patch out large automatic farms too. Like villager discounts, those allow players that are willing to put in the effort to play around with the game's mechanics in ways unplanned by the developers to gain large amounts of resources. But removing something like that would remove an incredible amount of possibilities from the game, and the exact same thing is true of these villager discounts. Mojang should rethink this decision.
