Revised Pet Taming and Breeding System

I feel like the pet breeding system in Minecraft (specifically for cats and dogs) could use a revision. IN the real world, both domestic cats and domestic dogs were originally bred from wild cats and wild dogs. A new way of breeding your pets could be introduced where, as it already is with wolves, taming an ocelot or wolf simply tames it, without changing it's appearance. Then when breeding two tamed ocelots or two tamed wolves, there is about a 50% chance that the baby ocelot or wolf will become domesticated and take on a new look. For cats it should be one of the many variants that we already have, and different variants could be added for dogs.  The other 50% of the time it would remain an ocelot or wolf.
