I'm Aware that Crocodiles and Alligators will never be added to Minecraft because hostile mobs are meant to be fantasy creatures, well I have another idea. Gharials could be added as an alternative Neutral or passive Mob. In Minecraft, Gharials could Potentially spawn in Mangroves and Swamps and feed on fish, similar to real life as Gharials are Almost Exclusively fish eaters (In contrast to Crocodiles which consume any meat they get their hands on). Fish could also be how a player can breed Gharials
Some Unique Behaviour Traits of Gharials could be Basking, where Gharials haul themselves on riverbanks to absorb solar heat and Nest Protection, in which Gharial Nests will spawn.
Gharials could be neutral mobs, only attacking the player If a player attacks it or if a Player is near a Gharial nest.
Though Fictional, Gharials could be a good indicator that there are diamonds nearby, wherever a Gharial nest is, there could be diamonds just underneath it.
unfortunately, Gharials are Critically endangered and adding Gharials to the game could help raise awareness for their conservation and protection.
In Conclusion, Gharials could be a new, interesting and unique mob that could make the minecraft world seem more alive and raise awareness to protect a magnificent beast from extinction
