I think that the game needs bags, backpacks, belts, quivers, maybe even scabbards of different quality, but the starting inventory should be reduced.

Just leather seems a wee bit cheap for something as substantial as an expansion to the player's inventory. Considering the experimental recipe of a bundle uses the fairly challenging to get rabbit hide and that thing has a significantly less powerful effect than actually adding extra slots to the player's inventory, there must be something to keep the player from instantly obtaining one of these within their first Minecraft day.

I'd say a chest is a must within the recipe, leather is a logical material to be included as well, but the gatekeeper resources should probably be something like a couple of gold ingots, one in every corner, so the final recipe is 1 chest, 4 leather and 4 gold ingots. Maybe even swap the top piece of leather for a rabbit hide to make it even more challenging without completely breaking the coherence of the recipe's shape (rabbit hide would be the backpack's lid is my reasoning here).

Just give me a simple backpack with 27 slots and I will be happy. It should be crafted by surrounding a chest in seven leather.
