I know that this has been requested in the past already, and Mojang already stated that they won't be adding much in-real-life mobs because they want to stick to a fantasy theme for minecraft...
I've always wanted red-pandas in minecraft mainly due to a cuteness factor, but I understand how that alone isn't a good reason to add a new mob to minecraft... It lacks features...
Therefore, why don't we take it a step further and make them not just ordinary animals? We could add some kind of red-panda civilization, red-pandas who can walk on two paws and have learned how to "minecraft" their own way
These new type of villagers could be residents of the lush caves, adding more life to it, since the only current lush caves mob is the axolotl
They could even have a unique interaction with axolotl, maybe they can gift them tropical fish?
I feel like that the parallel between villagers and piglins is that villagers specialize in "Trading" while piglins go around the nether "Scavenging"
This new red-panda civilization should maybe specilize in "Zoology" and help you unlock unique interactions with animals? Such as petting your cats and dogs?
Maybe this interaction is unlocked upon meeting this civilization, maybe you befriend them by petting them?
Another idea is to theme them around "Mining", however I find that pretty plain and also similar to the Scavenging of piglins
I don't know, but regardless, this is my take on a good way to implement red-pandas into minecraft.
