The trading system forever changed the way people play minecraft because it teaches people that the best way to obtain diamond or anything of value is through trading. Diamonds and enchanted books should be rewarded for exploring structures, not something easily obtainable through trade. And the mending librarian should never even existlikehowisthis–
There is a huge world to be explored if villages sold uniquely, creative home goods. There is a growing audience for ambiance and redoing the trading system could open the door to interior design. The players could give raw materials and emeralds in exchange for tables, chairs, fences/trellises, etc. It'd be a collectible furniture set and the designs would be based of the biome it's in.
Another reason why, is imagine all the recipes players would have to learn just to have furnitures. It's enough to have to remember the recipes for the clock, lectern, jukebox, and armor stand, it's starting to get overwhelming. Trading for furnitures will skip the need to learn extra recipes.
