That could work. That could make two spears

while I like the idea behind spears, I think making them a craftable item would sort of diminish the rarity of tridents, maybe they could be a very rare drop from archeology instead, this way they would become more of an alternative to tridents and not a substitute

I want to extend on the idea and add some of my opinions:
    1) This could be an opportunity to add a functionality to the fletching table by making it a table for upgrading arrows.
    2) When using the new crafting system of the fletching table we could use the regular flint arrows and add upgrades to them. That way we could justify, for instance, making a copper arrow deal more damage than a regular arrow while still giving it the ability to "make" lightning.
    3) While I like the idea of the copper arrow making a target get hit by lightning, I think it would be a waste to enchant an arrow if I'm gonna use it just one time. Instead a copper arrow could just deal more damage and maybe just increase the likelihood of the target to get hit by lightning during a thunderstorm, but it could be overpowered depending on how it's being implemented.
    4) Giving a bow and arrows a new look by combining them with bamboo, bones, blaze rods and other materials, ect. Giving a new way to customise bows and arrows and thus making the fletching table similar to the smithing table with it's own parallel to armor trim.
    5) More of my arrow upgrades ideas:
    • Copper Arrow - mentioned above.
    • Roped Arrow - making by adding a lead to an arrow, the roped arrow can attach a lead to animals from far away. (Optional: Could be a way to lead other players. if we lead certain mobs that are too strong they will lead the player, and depending on the mob they will deal them some damage and cut the rope).

I actually want the spears to do a little less damage because they can be crafted and if they are more powerful people won't be wanting to get tridents.

I do think spears should get into Minecraft.
They would deal less dmg (three points are better than one?)
They could also have a chance to break on impact so your opponent can't throw them back.
