  Another possibility is to add an option to see an icon on the screen indicating the direction (& color, if possible/reasonable) of a beacon beam. This would make beacons helpful as, well, beacons (which in the real world, served as a way to find someplace) and is deserved because of how late-game they are. (This would be the similar to lodestones, but better in every way.)
  
  Other interesting things would be if they could be named, or have a map icon.
